Description
(Haematoxylum campechianum)
Logwood comes from a tree native to the West Indies and the Yucatan Peninsula.
With alum it gives purple to blue purple, however do not use cream of tartar in the mordanting process as it will turn the purple colour to brown.
Logwood contains natural tannin and is therefore effective on both protein and cellulose fibres. It is especially beautiful on silk.
