Marigolds are very easy to grow and a very cheerful plant to have in the garden. The tall African variety has bright yellow or orange blossoms and the dwarf French marigolds have smaller yellow, orange, rusty red on a more compact plant. I direct sow in several beds in the spring which displays huge amounts of blooms from summer until the first frost.
It is the flower heads that produce a lovely yellow dye – use either fresh or dried.
You can use the fresh or dried flower heads or separate the petals (my preference)
