Description

Anthemis tinctoria

Dyer’s Chamomile has been used for dyeing fibre for thousands of years. It provides the yellow and buff in Turkish carpets. When overdyed with indigo or woad gives wonderful greens.

Sow:

Indoors

Surface sow seed in trays in March – April at about 20 degrees C. Water gently – do not allow seeds to dry out. Germinates in about 2 weeks. When seedlings are large enough to handle prick out into individual pots. Plant out into their final position when the risk of frost has passed

Outdoors:

Can be sown directly in spring or autumn where they are to flower and covered lightly with soil. Water regularly until germination.

  • Height: 30 – 50cms
  • Space: 12 – 18 inches apart
  • Flowering: July – September
  • Light-dependent germinator
  • Prefers well-drained sweet soil and a sunny position
  • Divide every three years to maintain vigor
  • Cut back once flowering has finished promoting bushiness.
