Description
(Potassium Bitartrate)
Crystalline opaque white powder. Alkali modifier.
Used for wool and silk.
An optional addition to the alum mordant and to some dye baths.
Helps prevent fading and brightens colours.
With madder it will shift the hue to orange.
With cochineal it will it will shift the colour to a bright red – orange.
It is rarely used with logwoods and certain tannins as it can inhibit the colour development.
