Coreopsis Seeds

COREOPSIS tinctoria - also known as golden tickseed

Coreopsis is an easy plant to grow. It will thrive in most soil, but does require full sun. Sow indoors a few weeks before the last frost and transplant when the seedlings are about 2 inches high, or sow directly outside in the spring. Remove weeds from within a two foot radius of the bed.

Add three inches of sand and mix it into the top six inches of the soil. Rake the soil until it is smooth. Scatter the seeds on the surface of the soil but do not cover with soil as they need light to germinate. Water gently until the top three inches of the soil is moist.

Allow the soil to dry before watering again. Although the plant is drought tolerant, consistent irrigation will keep it in bloom. After the flowering season allow some flower heads to remain on the plant to allow them to self seed ready for next year.

Coreopsis is a slender plant growing to between 1 – 2 feet. It is known for its small but abundant yellow flowers, with a maroon centre.

Provides a strong yellow/orange dye. It is a pretty wildflower native to the U.S.A. Very attractive to bees and butterflies.
