NATURAL DYES AND THE CHEMICALS USED WITH THEM PRESENT A LOW HEALTH RISK – PROVIDED THAT COMMON SENSE IS OBSERVED IN THEIR USE AND STORAGE.

WORK IN A WELL VENTILATED ROOM. AN EXTRACTOR FAN IS USEFUL FOR TAKING AWAY VAPOURS.

STORE ALL DYES AND MORDANTS IN CLEARLY LABELLED CONTAINERS – OUT OF THE REACH OF CHILDREN AND PETS.

NEVER EAT OR DRINK WHEN DYEING OR MORDANTING.

NEVER USE SAUCEPANS OR UTENSILS USED FOR FOOD PREPARATION FOR DYEING OR MORDANTING.

ALWAYS ADD ACIDS TO WATER – NEVER WATER TO ACIDS TO AVOID CREATING TOXIC FUMES.

WEAR A FACE MASK TO PREVENT INHALING FINE POWDERS.

ALWAYS WEAR GLOVES. SURGICAL ONES ARE IDEAL WHEN WEIGHING POWDERS AND LONG SLEEVED GAUNTLETS WHEN DYEING WITH INDIGO OR WOAD.

WHEN MORDANTING DO NOT EXCEED SIMMERING POINT AND ALWAYS KEEP THE LID ON THE BUCKET TO CONTAIN FUMES.

ENSURE ALL CHEMICALS ARE EXHAUSTED BEFORE DISPOSAL.

DILUTE WITH PLENTY OF WATER AND DISPOSE OF DOWN THE LAVATORY.
